Tips for Players and Coaches

News

This page is set up to help players, coaches and parents find useful information on baseball and softball.

Pitch Counts

The USA Baseball's Medical Advisory Group which consists of leading sports surgeons as well as former professional players has announced new guidelines that parents and coaches should use in order to keep pitchers safe. Please don't leave it up to the pitcher to track the number of pitches he has thrown in a game. Coaches should track each pitchers weekly and monthly pitch count totals. We encourage parents to track their son's pitch total as well. Remember, counting innings isn't enough.

Choosing the Right Bat

First off, where should you buy a bat?  Modell's Sports Authority?  We suggest shopping online or at your local batting cage.  There are plenty of wholesale Baseball Equipment Companies that sell online.  Why not pick up last year's model?  I'll bet it performs the same but may just have a different paint scheme.  DiMarini Bats,  Louisville Slugger Bats, Easton Bats, Worth Bats all make bats that perform equally well.

Raise Your Batting Average 100 Points

As a former college coach and current instructor, I spend a lot of time talking and teaching the skill of hitting a baseball.

Too many times players and coaches are too concerned with the mechanics of the swing and forget about the mental side of hitting. We can spend hours going over swing mechanics and even players with beautiful swings may still only wind up batting .250.

What All Great Hitters Do

Before you go out and buy the most expensive ZCore Bat from Easton Bats, or the latest DiMarini Double Barrel Bat, be sure your son or daughter's swing is mechanically correct.

What do Derek Jeter, David Wright and Albert Pujols have in common? They all let the ball get ‘deep’. What does that mean you ask? Letting a ball get deep in the strike zone means simply hitting the ball later. Too many young hitters are told to ‘go get the ball.’ Teach your hitters to hit to the opposite field.

How to Break In a New Glove

This is a question that is quite often asked.  We'll first start by what you shouldn't do to break in a new baseball glove.

Don't Oil It......This add weight to the glove, dries it out in the sun and makes the glove collect dirt.

Don't Dunk it in Water....Would you dunk a leather jacked in a bucket of water?
